Interview with a Vampire Writer; "Random Angels" The Best Fanfiction You Haven't Read!

"Tell me what you want, Bella!" he demanded. He was pleading like he was fighting against himself.

I wanted his body, his mind, his touch, his tormented soul. I wanted his laughter and his tears and that damn crooked smile. I wanted his music and his every breath, his heartbeat, his blood… his life. Another slow wave pulsed through my insides when his hand slowly circled above my sex, never touching, using our connection to drag me to the very edge of insanity, I should have stopped, I should have made him stop… but it felt so good. This was insane. My fingers found the tree and dug deep into the bark.

"Tell me," he demanded again, achingly close, making my whole body shudder with pleasure. I couldn't help it, I wanted him, I needed him in the most basic way. I was out of my mind, driven crazy by lust, his smell and his long fingers. I needed them on me, in me.

"I want you," I whimpered, barely recognizing my desire laden voice.

--Excerpt from “Random Angels”
One of the Best Fanfiction Stories You Haven't Read.
Whew! Take a breath there chickadees. Recovered? Today's post will be LONG but worth every word I promise, mostly because they are not all MY WORDS today!! Keep reading for my review of this cool fanfiction followed by a great interview with the story's author, Eila.

When I read fanfiction, I enjoy the immediate in-your-face-and-other-places smutty stories just as much as the rest of the Twi-whores, but I also really enjoy a well-developed, well-thought out story that is full of mystery, intrigue, suspense, angst and, of course, the highly-anticipated possibility of a Bella and Edward romance with well-placed lemony goodness!

An absolute gem of a story I found that meets and exceeds above criteria is “Random Angels” by Eila (beta’d by revrag.) In her story, Bella is a fairly newish vampire living in Forks with the Cullens and Edward is a mysterious, strong-willed, good-humored, tempting, well-built, hawt, regular bad boy who comes to Forks to live with his uncle Charlie.

This is NOT a mere retelling of Twilight with the roles switched like others have tried to do in fanfictionland. This is a very unique story with carefully placed quotes taken from the book and movie that allow enough familiarity to make the reader feel a sense of being propelled through the story, chapter after chapter, much like you probably felt the first time you read the original Twilight. This story has twists, turns, suspense, and drama that will leave you wanting more and more at the end of each chapter whether there is an intentional cliffie written in or not!

The detailed backstories of both Bella and Edward are what set this story apart from the original Twilight but the rest of the Cullens and your favorite Twilight settings are present and very true to form--so much so, that you will instantly revisit the Forks High School campus, easily maneuver your way up the stairs to the third floor of the Cullen’s house, and be ready to spill secrets in the meadow.

Eila’s writing is descriptive, witty, smart, and mature. Plus she interlaces her story with general pop culture references that will make you giggle. To her credit, she doesn’t over-tell the details of the characters we already know.

I was super excited Eila responded to my PM and agreed to an interview! She's a doll!

Interview with a Vampire Writer, Eila
(wth my added commentary!)
1. First thing is first, are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Team Edward all the way. (And it shows in her fanfic!)

2. Any writing background before fanfiction?
I'm been writing in some form or another since I was very young. I have several full length manuscripts finished and a couple of scripts.I had read the Twilight books long before the film came out and I came into fanfiction very much by accident when I saw a video on Youtube for "Wide Awake." After I discovered several more wonderful stories I decided to try writing one for myself.

3. Why a story about Bella as a vampire?
I was interested in what the differences would be in the dynamics of the relationship. In Twilight as well as being the vampire and the stronger in all physical aspects, Edward also takes a very old fashioned male role of being the the protector and the provider, whereas Bella is the weaker one, the gentle female nurturer. I wanted to see what would change if Edward was no longer the one with the phyical strength, stamina, and longivity. What would happen if Bella didn't need his protection or if it was him that needed hers instead. How would Edward deal with with being the damsel in distress and would he make the same potentionally life threatening choices Bella made in Twilight and New Moon?

4. Did you plan out the whole story before you wrote it or have you developed the story as you've gone?
It started as points, then a brief outline, then a full length hand written fiction. After that I started typing and some things have changed, there are so many twists and nonapparent connections that there can't be too many deviations from the original idea.

5. What is your writing process?
I write by hand, the only thing I've ever developed and typed from only and idea was a one shot, "Sins of the Father."

6. Which character has been your favorite to write? Why?
Edward. He has so much going on and his whole life has changed so much but he tackles it all head on with a single-minded determination. He knows what he wants and he's prepared to do whatever he has to do to achieve it. He knows, even as a human, he is not powerless. He is capable of being devious if the situation calls for it and yet he is loyal and thoughtful. He's knows exactly how far he can push Bella and he doesn't love half way. For Edward everything is all or nothing, no excuses and no half ways.

7. After Bella and Edward, who is your favorite character in the series?
Emmett, he doesn't have much of a back story so I think I've allowed my imagination to run wild reading the series. (Me Too!)

8. What part of the upcoming Eclipse movie are you most excited to see? What part of the book do you hope makes it into the movie?
The leg hitch. The leg hitch. (She's definitely a total fangirl, isn't she?)

9. What are your top 3 favorite fanfictions that you have read?
At the moment a WIP by my friend, "The good, the bad and the beautiful" by Mamma4ever is my number 1. There are only a few chapters up but I have been privileged to read much further along and this story KILLS me. The things that happen break my heart and make me laugh. I find myself sitting in my car or walking aorund the house thinking about it.

The Best Man by Brattyvamp, I was lucky that I started reading this the day before it was finished so there was no waiting but I do remember having to stop several times to compose myself. (Eila also made a killer video for this. See it here!)

There are so many amazing fictions to pick from. I could pick 100. I'm going to go with "Home at Last," a one shot by huxumhunnie311. It's a Jasper fic and that and "The Best Man" made me love Jasper.

10. When "Random Angels" is finished are you planning on doing another fanfiction story? Any clues to what it is about?
I'm working on some original fiction and I intend to spend some more time with that but I've already started on a fiction called "The Hourglass." Bella moves to Chicigo and becomes obsessed with a comdemned and apparently haunted house.

1. What is your favorite scene in "Random Angels?"
Bella finally discovering Edward's secret and the confrontation between them in his bedroom. (That's a good one but its not my favorite..umm can you say Happy New Year's?)

12. Favorite line from the whole SAGA series?
“You are safe inside your mind. No one can touch you there.” -Alice, Eclipse.

13.  Rob calls you up and tells you he has read your story and really likes it. He suggests meeting you for coffee to talk about it, meeting you at a pub to discuss it over beers, or just coming to your house to re-enact a scene. Which do you choose?
The pub over a guinness in Dublin would be lovely. (Such restraint! Then again who knows where that would lead)

Thank you again to Eila for being so responsive to this idea!! I hope everyone will check out her story!

A big welcome to anyone who lands here today by way of already knowing Eila and this story, too!

Enjoy and may you fall in love with this Edward, errr..I mean story! Feel free to show some fanfictionlovin' support in the comments! -TT
