Jayla's VA Twilight Convention Adventures

TKOB...

1.  Check out that Blog Train button! I kick things off Monday!
                                       ----------------->

2.  So happy to see you guys wade through the wolf poo to meet here yesterday for a laugh!

Now that blogger is cooperating, I've got Jayla's story from the Arlington, VA Twilight Convention that was supposed to feature Kellan Lutz, but somehow he got out of it. Man I would have been pissed if I had bought tickets months ago just to see him. If you are considering going to a convention, (like TC) I think Jayla's story is going to be a definite convincer!

Hey Jayles! Shout out to Liz I know she would have liked to have gone too.

Take it away....
What can I say about the conference? (Well a lot I hope, I'm dying to hear it all!) It's definitely an experience. Everyone in attendance was super friendly and very cordial. The twilighty guests on Sunday were: Edi Gathegi, Kiowa Gordon, Justin Chon and Tinsel Corey. All of the twi-guests were gracious and nice. Some had huge personalities- others.. um, well, no so much. (cough-kiowa-cough)

Justin seems like the surfer boy next door. My cousin took the same acting class with him in Los Angeles and said Justin was really laid back. He has this fab tattoo on his left shoulder and chest (very tribal looking) and someone asked is he would show us the tattoo.. He said "It's cold in here-I could cut glass'... honestly I think the conference would be much better if they made it for over 21 folks ... Someone asked about seeing his butt - He said 'No, I haven't shaved my ass'- yea- I thought it was funny. If I had my 5 year old with me, I wouldn't have thought it appropriate.

As I think I mentioned he's a surfer/skater dude. He had stories about getting drunk and doing silly things.. bungee jumping drunk in korea.

Justin's autograph session was at the end of the afternoon - background on the autographs; you were only allowed one signature per autograph ticket purchased, so you can imagine how expensive the weekend could get. i asked some of the other attendees who had been around all weekend if the guests would sign more than one thing. the twihards assured me that they would, but it ultimately depended on how the star felt. my motto, nothing beats a failure like a try - so even though i had been floating around these folks all day - I was still in full bella mode. i hand justin the group picture to sign- but then I realize that's not the picture I want him to sign- I want him to sign his 'head shot'.

"You're a mess." Hey just what every fangirl wants to hear!

me: gah, that's not the picture I wanted you to sign
justin (rolls his eyes): You're a mess!
me: yea, I know (still fumbling with the hard plastic photo sleeve, trying to pull out his picture)
my cousin went a acting class with you back in los angeles.
justin: (head cocks to side like a puppy)
me: yea, his name is c. williams, but I can't recall his stage name (I describe my cousin)
justin: oh, did he do Passions?
me: I have no idea- I doubt it, he's only done pilots.
justin (signing other photo): oh, okay.
me: okay bye- thank you.

NEXT UP...
Edi and Justin have really great chemistry together. They even did a little impromptu skit as jackie chan and chris tucker (ala rush hour). At one point Justin and Edi were on stage and Edi felt Justin up (they were doing this mini 'men on films' moment from _in living color_) and Justin said 'did I cut your hand?" The boys are definitely silly. (don't know if you have ever watched In Living Color- but "Men of Films" was a skit that had two silly gay men -Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier- dressed bizarrely reviewing films.. hilarious sketch... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxf6oyafhtq) (hello, blogger fly girl here!)

"Does my hat not make me sooooo mouthwatering?"
Edi seems a bit buttoned up, not as relaxed as Justin, but He has quite a presence. He wore this gawd awful white ‘hat’ all day. well- all weekend from what I was told by others. eck. Edi is interesting. He comes from a stage background, so he approaches his tv/movie work differently. He said he loves to research his characters. I didn’t realize he had a reoccurring roll on Huse (I rarely watch tv since finding fanfic- so if its not on my dvr, it doesn’t get seen). He told us he auditioned for the role of Donkey in the broadway version of Shrek. he didn’t get the roll (He said he can’t sing like a broadway star)- but he graced us with a spot on version Eddie Murphy’s Donkey.

If he wasn’t acting, he’d like to go to culinary school. During the photo op- I told him that I recently started culinary school- I don’t recall his response. I was having a twitchy bella, stutter, I can’t multitask moment.
A fan eventually asked Edi if he had a girlfriend and he said he was emotionally unavailable- because he'd been broken. someone from the audience yelled 'I've got the glue!".. Edi's response, "that is the best pick up line for a bar." That's hysterical!

During the Edi autograph session (this took place about 20 minutes after I walked into the hotel- so I was completely freaking out) I asked him to sign something for my friend who just couldn’t come (she’s in ny)
me: (twitchy-nervous-hand shaking) Can you please sign this for my friend too, she couldn’t come.
Edi: (smile/smirk) You’re so holding up the line.
me: (cheesy smile) yea I know – but thanks.

Kiowa - Oh boy- This poor boy. He is a walking commercial for ad/hd. I left halfway through his Q and A, as it was painful to listen to him ramble. I ran into him when I ran to put something in my car .. his words 'hey, bye!'... He mumbles, a lot.

One fan question was "Name your fave book"- the women next to me said he should say "anything dr. seuss". (LOL that's wrong!)- honestly I don’t recall his answer. He probably mumbled it. Someone else asked "who is your favorite president?" He said 'well i've only been around for like two of them.” pause, pause "uh, I guess bush. I'll let you guess which one." more than 1/2 of the audience groaned (I’m going out on a limb and going to say he liked the second bush- who is definitely the moniker for anything is possible- and I’m not being snarky.) Lastly, Kiowa said another wolf packer kept making jokes about each wolf scene - because they were all working in 30 degree weather 1/2 naked. The guys would always say they were going to ‘cut glass’ after scene. (Recurring joke! Oooohhhhh I wonder if Rob said that on set...)

Tinsel is teeny tiny, sweet and funny. She did a perfect impression of Kiowa. She slumped down in the director’s chair and hunched over, held the mic in her face and say ‘hey’ (ala surfer dude). She has over 20 film and tv credits to her name. She does a lot of community service in the native american community and giving back is her passion. She brought a few under 13 fan girls on stage and did a little self confidence exercise. at the conclusion of the exercise she gave the girls a gift bag with a sketch pad and colored pencils (to express their feelings on any given day) that had been signed by the weekend’s guests.

Hillywood. They scare me - like clowns at the circus scare me. (Yikes! Me too!) I can tell you that they do look a little better in person than in their pictures and they are always 'in character' so it's funny to watch them interact with people. They’re the mc's for the convention. When they introduce a guest they perform the appropriate new moon scene and the guest comes in with their appropriate line. Very cute. (That is too funny!) I did over hear one fangirl talking about Hillywood Jacob. She said, "gawd- there are children here- he should go put on a shirt." Now I thought her comment was silly because, #1 fangirl was 15- at most and #2 the kid had a nice body.

I do not regret anything and I am so happy that I had that opportunity to indulge myself a little. With that said, I think it would be more fun or maybe rewarding is the better word, to stalk/meet 'n' greet/picture/autograph  rather than a planned event, but yes, I would attend another conference w/ a twihard- in a heartbeat. (Is that an invite? I wanted to roadtrip it to this. It was discussed with the Mr. ATP a few months ago) after all I still must meet Kellan and PFach... and of course meeting the Precious goes w/o saying.

Jayla's Twilight Scorecard!
I now have a check mark for each column - save the volturi: 1-veg vamp (jasper); 1- nomad vamp (laurent); 1 wolf (embry); 1-human (eric); and 1 wolf girl (emily).

Thanks again Jayla for sharing your story!
Loved this but not loving Justin's attitude even if you were okay with it.
I'll be looking for my Edi G. autograph in the mail this week!
Show her some love in the comments!
